Conference
Tipton has mad the most progress in social skills. He now has the ability to share and take turns with his friends.

Tipyon enjoys playing in the Dramatic play area.

Tipton enjoys one on one time helping me hang up the art work.

Redirection for Tipton is playing with sand and water when he is upset with his friends. This allows him quite time to calm down.

One objective the parents could work on at home with Tipton is to use his words to communicate his feelings when he is upset instead of crying.

Health Alert

It has recently been reported to the center that your child may have been exposed to Srreptococcal Sore Throat- "Strep".

What it is:
Strep throat is a bacterial infection. Not every sore throat is strep.

How it spread:
Inhaling respiratory droplets from an ill person spreads strep throat. It is usually sperad by sneezing or coughing, or indirectly by contact with hands or objects ( such as drinking cups or eating  utensils) contaminated with nose or mouth discharges of an infected person ( respiratory spread).

What to look for:
  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Oozing and redness of tonsils and throat
Strep can only be diagnosed with a labortory throat culture.

What you can do:
  • Have your child wash his/her hands frequently
  • Always practice good personal hygiene. Encourage your child to cover his/her mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Dispose of soiled tissues after a runny nose. Always follow with proper hand washing.
  • Do not allow your child to share eating utensils, food, or drinking cups.
  • Wash and sanitize toys mouthed by infants and toddlers.
If you suspect your child has been infected:
  • Call your childs pediatrician and inform them of your child's sysmptoms
  • Notify the center if the doctor diagnoses Strep Throat.
  • Your child may ruturn 24 hours after antibiotics has been started.
What we are doing to prevent the spread:
  • Children and staff practice proper hand washing techniques frequently.
  • Staff and children are encouraged to cover the nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
  • Soiled tissue is disposed of properly after wiping a runny nose and mouth.
  • Children will never share eating utensils, food, or drinking cups.
  • Infant and toddler toys will be sanitized daily (or as often as needed).
A child that displays any sign or symptoms of Strep Throat will be isolated from the  other children and the parents will be notified to pick up the child.

What Not to Wear dressing Professinally

Depending on a persons profession, to me would mean how they should dress in the public work place. They should be neat and clean with clothes that fit, match, and free of holes. On this espisode of what not wear, Jennie a 32 year old mother, who had a P H D, was really a sloppy dresser who didn't mind wearing clothes from the thrift store, and off the curb. Buying clothes from the thrift store is fine but, Jennie didn't mind if her clothes had holes in them, she would use pins to close any tears. She also wore clothes that was many sizes to big for her. Jennie is a small woman who is size 0. Jennie didn't think that she was tacky looking. She did not put any thought in what she wore, many of her clothes was ragged.

    1. The Confidentiality code was violated with Eric's mother, because the teacher was discussing Eric's information in public with her co-worker.
    2. Eric's confidentiality was violated because his teacher was discussing his personal information with her co-worker on the playground.
    3. No I do not think that the two directors should have had a discussion concerning Eric's disabillity prior to his enrollment.
    4. The mother, teacher, and director should have been included in the meeting.
    5. Yes a conversation with Eric's classmates would have been helpful because, the teacher should have let the children know that they would be getting a new student named Eric, and let them welcome him to there classroom.
    6. With smiles, telling the child that we are so glad to have you as our new friend and the teacher could have interacted with Eric to help ease the transition to his new school. Eric also should have been allowed to keep his toy, and the teacher should not have shared Eric's information.
    7. The teachers conversation in the resturant was unprofessional.
    8. It would still be unprofessional for the teacher to discuss Eric's personal information in the staff loung at the center.
    9. As a director, I would apopogize to Eric and his mother and let her know that this kind of behavior is not acceptable in our program to rectify this situation.
    10. I don't think the mother should leave her child in that school because the issue that Eric had to deal with was to much and the staff was unconcerned.
    11. Eric has already had alot of stress on him so for that reason I would not want to move him again.

Journal Entry 4

Being respected and respecting other people is very important to me. No one deserves to be ignored or diisrespected. I respect my children in my classroom as well as any adults I come in contact with. When someone greets me with complaints, avoid eye contact, do not call me by my name, or give me the cold shoulder it offends me and makes me angry. Depending on the relationship I have with the person, depends on how I would handle the situation. If the person is a parent I would act very professional, but I would no longer respect her. If it was the center's director, she would be gettin a two weeks' notice. If the person was my co-worker, I would no longer have any respect for her either. I think that when people react this way it says a lot about them. I would not have much to say to the parent or my co-worker. In order to stay professional I would avoid the parent only if there was no other teacher around to greet her.

I hate confusion and conflict every action does not need a reaction and so, I would remove myself from any situation I could. I would try to keep my emotions under control, but to be subjected to this ugly behavior coming from someone unexpectedly could cause alot of tension and stress for most of us.

Journal Entry 3

2.1a      If I had a parent who asked me to break a rule, I would explain to her the rules have no exceptions and how important it is to follow program policies. I would explain to the family why nut products should not be brought into the center. I would thank the family for wanting to provide snacks for the children. I would ask the family if they would like to bring a different kind of treat.

2.1b     I think that under the circumstances, an exception should be made, I would meet with my staff and explain the situation that their co-worker is experienceing, hoping that everyone would understand and agree to let their co-worker have fridays off. Life happens and I would allow my staff to have Fridays off. I would explain to my other staff that I would have done the same thing for them.

2.2a     I would talk to my co-worker and tell her privately that she should have asked to use my lession plan and please dont take my lesson plan and use it as if it was your own without asking me first. I would let her know that if she needed help I would be available to help her.

2.2b     I would let the father know how sorry I was about the incident and that I was unaware of it. I would try to explain to him that these things happen among little children and I do apologize. Your daughter did not tell me about this incident. I will let your daughter know that she should tell me of any incident so that they may be documented. I pay close attention to all of the children, but we sometimes miss things. If you would like to meet with my director I will have to arrange a time to meet you.

Journal Entry 2

I have many audiences, my audience is my children, students, acensing workers, parents, the mail man, my co-workers and vendors, lincensing workers, neighbors, future families and friends.

The communication between the parent and the staff was effective. There was an opportunity for the parent to agree or disagree with the staff suggestions.

I visualize my program as a quality two star center that provides a loving educational environment for children.

I do consider my center to be affordable. After checking the rates of other centers who were higher, we will continue to keep our rates lower so that we may help low income families and single parents.

Yes we are academically oriented we offer a good program to our children.

The policy, program, equipment and curriculm we use to identify our program is the "Tiny Tot and Mother Goose"curriculm. we have partipate days and parent meetings. Our policy and procedures are from our handbooks and D.H.S contracts.

The strengths of our center are the relationship and communication that we have with our parents and the quality care we offer our children. We are a small center and this allows the children to recieve lots of one on one adult attention. Improvements can be mad in organizing office work and managing time better.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Esther Arnold I am the director of Beulahs'child care center.I chose this profession becauseI enjoy interacting with children ,and I want to make a difference in a childs life ,a child who might need a hug, a pair of shoes,or a bag of food over the week end. I think that a child should have lots of wonderful memories of their childhood years, like a trip to Six Flags over Texas. It makes me feel wonderful when a young adult comes up to me and say," I remember you,I remember Six Flags ,I remember"-------
Education is important to me because it lays the foundation for a good future, and less stressful life.
